On February 15 2020, Batmobile played live for the last time in Bristol (UK). The shows planned for the rest of the year kept getting postponed. Some bands decided to perform in front of a camera with some empty bar stools and a few plants. The guys from Batmobile quickly concluded that this was not how they wanted it: ‘If you make an online covid event, the lack of live atmosphere has to be made up for!

And it’s possible! With limited resources but unlimited energy and creativity, Batmobile has succeeded in creating an hour-long online event. A live performance on a virtual planet is alternated, with down-to-earth reports by singer Jeroen Haamers. The result: ‘The World of Batmobile’.

“You are invited to the “The World of Batmobile”, an online covid event of the legendary rockabilly band Batmobile. Almost an hour of live music from the planet Tremorus and down to earth reports… Featuring Sparky (DAG), the barbers of Schorem, illustrator Pieter Dorrenboom, the brewer of Batmobeer and Dr. Worst. Join us on May the 1st at 20.30 hrs. Central European Time on mezz.nl/livestream.”

Op 15 februari 2020 speelde Batmobile voor het laatst live, in Bristol (UK). De optredens die gepland staan voor de rest van het jaar allemaal uitgesteld, en nog eens uitgesteld, en nog eens… Sommige bands besluiten om, in aanwezigheid van wat lege barkrukken een een paar planten, voor een camera op te gaan treden. De mannen van Batmobile trekken al snel de conclusie dat dat hem niet gaat worden: ‘Als je een online covid-evenement maakt, moet het gebrek aan live-sfeer wel gecompenseerd worden!

En dat kan! Met beperkte middelen, maar onbeperkte energie en creativiteit, is Batmobile er in geslaagd een uur-durend online evenement te maken waarbij een live optreden op een virtuele planeet wordt afgewisseld met reportages op aarde van zanger Jeroen Haamers. Het resultaat heet: ‘The World of Batmobile’.
